  1. I don't disagree with much of the commentary, I agree that they should largely have kept Raiden's progression pure from MGS2, he could have gone a long way and probably come somewhere close to what MGS4 was (although with not as much emphasis on the strength, but then again, Grey Fox had a hell of a time in MGS1) – I could actually see him snap in the way that it's showing to be like in MGR, but I have a feeling it would have been more suitable if it remained a prequel like it was originally planned to be, so he could get his shit together by the end or something similar.

The whole thing about MGS2 was a bit harsh though. I'm unsure if the arm plot was planned to be part of the arc, but to be fair, they did clarify later that this was Ocelot simply having himself hypnotized (still rather crazy but actually conceivable, much more so than Liquid's arm taking over) and as a result, I looked back on MGS2 more fondly as in a way, those two titles managed to answer quite a few questions.

All this being said, you are entitled to your opinions, but I will say that I personally don't look for badassery as a good trait for a protagonist. That's probably why it's best that Raiden wasn't the main character of MGS4, cause then it'd be hard to get comfortable with him. Rising, we'll see, I am still waiting to try it myself, I might change my opinion, the plot will be good and the gameplay too. But then again, all this considered, we have different tastes and I don't expect you to necessarily be as crazy about what I'm into. I dunno, though, the sweeping statements contained do give off an impression that you believe this is to be more than your opinion, but I'll leave it at that because I'm not entirely convinced 😛

Oh, I will criticize one thing – Raiden Apologists? lol, we're not defending a religion, and I think you see us putting in more effort than we do.

Liked your Apes blog post up above though, that was fun.

  2. lol well I was intentionally being a bit more sweeping than necessary, but it really is my opinion in the end, nothing more. With any luck, he'll find his place in MGR:R, but we'll see.

Pretty sure with MGS2 the arm part was meant to be just that – a psychic arm, because the whole part with hypnosis and nanomachines in MGS4 was kind of a weak explanation. It seems to me that Kojima was basically making things up as he went on, I don't think he really started planning things out until MGS3 came along. I could be wrong about that, but that's how it seems based on how the plots ended up getting worked out.

I suppose the explanations from MGS4 colour MGS2 a bit better, but I'll have to dive back into it sometime. It's so hard to though, it controls so clunkily in comparison to the others I find haha.

  3. Raiden sucks! Thats why I didn't finish mgs2, just watched the story recap before playing snake eater. Man, I hate Kojima for being a smartass and creating that wimpy little asshole and his annoying girlfriend.

  4. These are legitimate complaints for the most part, however, it doesn't mean Raiden "sucks" He is still a great character, and for fucks sake, you people throw around the word "whiny" more than you piss lol. He is has a gud backstory, he becomes badass in Revengeance, enough said. He is not as cool as Big Boss I agree, still a good character.
